Dog Walker and Playgroup Supervisor in Somerville, MA

Dog Walker & Playgroup SupervisorNeighborhood Paws seeks new team member. We believe socialization and stimulation are key ingredients in a dog's daily routine. Supervised playgroups, the focus of our business, get dogs out of the house and active--physically and mentally. Our approach offers a good mix of running, training, playing, and lessons in good doggie citizenship. Our goal is to ensure that our canine clients are happy, healthy, and well-adjusted. We are a small business serving the communities of Somerville and West Medford. The close connections we have to our clients and our community fuel our enthusiasm for the work we do. Our employee must be available between 9a-4p Monday through Friday. Average $250-$350/week. (This will initially be a part-time position, but we are looking for someone who will want to be with us full-time once they've become familiar enough with our pack.)Our employee will be given a mix of walks and playgroups. Playgroups involve picking up three dogs and bringing them to a local fenced-in dog park. Groups are at least 1 hour (plus pick-up and drop-off time), and require constant supervision and engagement with the dogs. As play group supervisors, we pay close attention to canine language and the subtle ways that our dogs express themselves in group settings. This is a hands-on job that keeps you on your toes. Our ideal employee would have an interest in learning about dog behavior and basic skills for working with dogs in a pack setting. This is not a short-term position. We are looking for someone who can make a commitment of at least 6 months and who is ultimately interested in being a part of our growing business. Must love dogs and not mind dog slobber, hair and dirt. Be prepared to work in all weather conditions-- rain, snow, extreme heat and cold. Previous experience with dogs a plus, but not required. Must live in Somerville or neighboring town and have a cell phone.
